In 1867, the Oland family opened their first brewery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It was known as the Army and Navy Brewery .

Shortly after becoming a widow she was forced to sell but later she repurchased the brewery along with her son George W.C.and renamed it S. Oland Sons & Company . The brewery was destroyed the the 1917 Halifax explotion.
